Growing up, we went camping every year.
Once I had to go to the bathroom
In the middle of the night.
My dad got up to take me.
As he carried me, I looked up.
That’s the only time I have seen the stars like that,
The Milky Way as brilliant white as milk.
More stars than I could have imagined.
We looked for a little bit,
Amazed together at the vast beauty.
A few minutes, a memory seared.
