Unexpectedly while driving,
A message from a friend,
Ready for prayer.
In college, my mentor’s parting card
Spoke of her hope that I would learn
To love deeply and well.
I thought of that today, as love
For my friend rose up,
From my heart to my eyes.
I am learning.
And with deeper love comes
Increased pain and increased
Joy.
