When Philip goes to the road to Gaza
And meets the chariot with the
Ethiopian eunuch returning to Candace
The queen, he hears the man reading
From the scroll of Isaiah,
And tells him that he reads of Jesus.
The eunuch believes and is baptized
And the Ethiopian church has lasted
From that time to this.
It’s a great story.
But I had never before considered
The scroll itself that the man read.
All scrolls were hand-copied.
Apparently, they were carefully kept.
So this foreigner, reading in the desert …
Where did he get this treasure?
