Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
So said the king of Nineveh,
That exceeding great city,
Who heard rumors that yet
Forty days until the city
Would be overthrown.
Who, indeed?
Jonah
could have told him
That God would repent.
But Jonah had delivered
His message of judgment,
And went out to wait
To witness the destruction
That wouldn’t come,
Because the people of Nineveh
Believed God.
