My mom would decorate the house
For Christmas
Until it was like fairyland.
Amidst the ornaments and chimes,
Glass spheres and decked out tree,
A single paper card made its annual appearance
On the top of the piano.
The cover showed twelve world leaders:
Napoleon, Caesar Augustus, Mao, and so on:
“History is full of men who would be gods.”
Inside: “But only one God who would be man.”
