When Absalom died,
David wept.
“O my son Absalom, my son,
My son Absalom! Would God
I had died for thee, O Absalom,
My son, my son!”
How could a father do anything but?
When David wept,
Joab corrected.
“Your faithful followers preserved
Your kingdom now grieve for the good
They did you. Go comfort them,
Or you will have no one by tomorrow.”
How could a general do anything but?
How can opposite responses both be right?
We don’t live in a world of black and white.
