Unexpected

This year I went to a meeting with a friend,
In pretentious grocery store Wegmans,
Expecting doubt, sin, pain, tears, fear,
Anger, grief, and, eventually,
Prostration.

Instead I found:
Belief, confession, repentance,
Forgiveness, prayer, reconciliation,
Laughter, and, eventually,
Peace.

I had gone expecting the taint of the world.

I returned having witnessed
The transforming power of God.
