One author wonders what it would be like
Really
If all our prayers were answered as we asked.
Would that not be a bit too magical,
A bit too little relational?
Way too disconcerting?
In one of my favorite fiction books,
A youth asks the gods to steal horses easily,
And when the horses step on the cobblestones,
There is no sound.
This makes the youth more terrified
Than if he hadn’t been the object of the gods’ attention,
And he hoped to divest himself of their scrutiny
Quickly.
If all our requests were instantly and miraculously answered …
How comfortable would that be,
Really.
