This morning I heard
That my friend is gone.
This evening I heard
That my cousin’s baby arrived.
The same day.
Death and birth.
Baby Hazel, born on the same day
As her great-great grandfather.
If my grandmother, age 94,
Was not yet living, would we have known?
Who now remembers the dead?
