I haven’t been to a toy store in years,
Preferring to shop online
Or, even more preferable, not at all.
But my friend has adopted a toddler,
And he needs toys to keep him occupied.
So we visited the toy store together,
A popular place to go on a Saturday morning.
Shelves stuffed with many things I’ve played with
Or used, from vintage toys from my childhood
To the latest eco-recycled-made-in-America gear.
And as my friend selected a toy horse
To go with the toy barn he recently received,
I had a glimpse of the joy of new parenthood,
Buying a small gift just to see
The smile and pleasure on the child’s face.
