It wasn’t until after you left
That I remembered that
You like 10 hours of sleep.
And you had, maybe 5
Since we stayed up until 2am,
Talking in hushed voices.
I blithely told you my potential
Brand name,
Mater Matters,
Without thinking how that would
Exclude you . . .
Until the words left my mouth.
I didn’t think to warn you
That healing prayer
Is tiring,
That I don’t have it all figured out,
That I need to be listening
And learn to take risks, too.
I think I was in need of a sounding board.
I don’t have that, really, here in Virginia.
I didn’t expect to share
And share
And share
But I’ve had so many realizations,
So many swirling thoughts,
It was a relief to get them out.
