Making Pizza

Abraham’s helped me for months,
As often as I let him,
Rolling out the dough for Friday’s dinner.
He knew where the recipe was,
Knew roughly what to do.

But what I went out of town,
He and Jadon did their best—
Twice—
But ended up with a less-than-ideal outcome
For all their hard work.

So we had a pizza lesson today.
There were just a few missing links:
Oil the pans first, so the dough doesn’t stick.
The recipe calls for maybe half the flour you’ll actually use.
Season the ground beef with paprika, not chili powder.

These small tips that made the difference between
Dinner perfection and
Dinner depression.

And since today I found a note to myself
From a year ago,
Reminding me to teach the boys to cook,
Today I can say

I did it.
